BRASS CITY CONNECTION
How We Made Our
"It all started as an idea in 2012: Will plays drums. The plan was to play a few songs at the 50th birthday party of Will's girlfriend. Will, John - who plays guitar, - and Kevin - lead guitarist - had become good friends while hanging out at the local Franco-American Club. They started making plans about 7 months before the party."
"So... we dusted off our old equipment, set it all up and tried to learn some songs. There were drums unused in a basement for 25 years, guitars that hadn't been "amped up" in over a decade. We ended up with a guitar player on bass, and singer-guitarist twangin' away on a guitar with only five strings. It was pathetic to say the least."
"Then we added Jim (Will’s brother) as our "musical director", playing keyboards & vocals. ...Now things were getting better: we could start and finish a song! After half-a-dozen practices with this setup, some more Franco-American Club friends came to help.
"We added Jeff on bass, and Woody on lead vocals. Now Kevin could switch from bass to guitar, the instrument he was born to play. Ah... now things really started falling in place! Our 3 songs quickly turned into 6, then 6 into 10,then 12 ...etc.. "
"About this time we added Tomas on backing & lead vocals, and Lisa provided backing & lead vocals. Ziggy added some percussion. It was getting crowded down there, in John's basement. But it worked! It seemed hard to believe, with all those pieces and with our limited experience, but we were actually stacking up a serious list of decent songs."
"Our deadline was quickly creeping up so we held a sort of dress rehearsal on John’s back deck. With a few friends over we "rocked out" that backyard! It was "game on" after that! We were all geared up to play at Maria’s Birthday party.!
"When the night arrived we played about 30 songs in three sets at the Waterbury Franco-American Club. We called ourselves “The French Connection” . We had a blast !
"After that experience we couldn’t just kill off this band after one party. We'd had too much fun to 'turn back now'"
"So here we are. We dropped the "French" from our name, and put in Brass City for Waterbury, our home town. We've gone through some personnel changes and setbacks along the way. But we're still a bunch of good friends who love to play! "
I'm Geoff, the keyboard player for Brass City Connection. I'm also tending this website for the band. I've been with them since the fall of 2017. The current lineup is:
Kevin on lead guitar
Will on drums and vocals
John on rhythm guitar and vocals
Dan on bass and vocals
I'm on keyboards and vocals
Ty is the lead singer
Woody and Tomas used to sing, and Victor used to do sound. Tomas and Victor left due to time constraints, and Woody chose to walk a different path. The other personnel changes occurred before my time.
Our current lead singer Ty adds adds a spirit of youth to the band, and we're sounding better than ever!
Having fun is still our goal. We all have day jobs, so the time we spend together as a band is a refreshing escape we look forward to.
Our roots are at the Franco American Club in Waterbury, and our fans are the best on earth.
